"In Kind" Commissions in Brighton

The Nightingale Theatre in Brighton is again offering two "In Kind" commissions to the region's emerging professional Dance & Theatre makers to create new pieces of work. Each commissioned piece will be 20 - 30 minutes in length, & reflect the Nightingale's policy of supporting new, performer-centric work based on intimacy, integrity and risk.

The Nightingale is NOT offering any fee or payment. The Nightingale IS offering each of the awardees:

  • Hours of rehearsal space to create a new piece of work.
  • The opportunity of taking part in a day long seminar discussing ways in which theatre and dance can positively influence each other.
  • Ongoing advice and support from experienced practitioners.
  • A presentation of the work to an audience invited from the profession.
  • Two public performances as part of the Nightingale's autumn season; followed by a post-performance discussion with the audience.

Applicants:

  • Will have completed a professional training course or be qualified by equivalent professional experience and will now be emerging as an artist or company in their own right.
  • Will be prepared to discuss their work at public forums and with members of the profession in a professional context.
  • Will have a commitment to the creation of work that explores and reacts to the space in which it is made and performed.
  • Will have a clear and articulate vision for the work process that they wish to undertake throughout the commission.
  • Will be viewing this commission as the opportunity to develop a piece of new and original work which could then be developed further in the future.
  • Will have an interest in the potential for Theatre and Dance to influence and learn from each other.

Applications:

  • For an application form please send an SAE to The Nightingale Commissioning Board at: The Nightingale Theatre, 29-30 Surrey St, Brighton, BN1 3PA
