The Tricycle Theatre is due to reopen its theatre space shortly following refurbishment of the auditorium.

In the meantime, audiences can look forward to the return of Mikel Murfi's The Man in The Woman’s Shoes, which will play in rep with his new play, I Hear You and Rejoice in the venue's cinema space. Both are performed by Murfi.

Also in the cinema space is An Evening With An Immigrant written and performed by Inua Ellams.

Using poems, stories and anecdotes, Ellams tells his story of being born in Nigeria to a Muslim father and a Christian mother, moving to Dublin and to London, working as a writer and graphic designer all the while having no place to call home.

The Upfront Comedy season also continues in the cinema space.

Six spaces will host Tricycle Takeover, now in its 4th year.

Tricycle Takeover is comprised of 25 free events, screenings, performances and masterclasses for and by young people including six new plays The Invisible Boy, 24 Hours, Almost, But Not Quite, We Too, Are Giants, Buried and Mission Improbable, sharing themes of community and coming of age.

The world première of The Great Wave sees the Tricycle Theatre in co-production with the National Theatre for the first time.

Tricycle artistic director Indhu Rubasingham directs this Japan and North Korea set play about two sisters swept away by a gigantic wave. Only one survives but their mother believes the other is also still alive. The Great Wave plays the Dorfman at the National Theatre.

Francis Turnly won the 2016 Catherine Johnson Award for The Great Wave. His other credits include Bogland, Hiding and Harajuku Girls for the stage and detective drama Hinterland, amongst others, for radio.
