Competition for Composers The Stage and the producers of Notes from New York have launched a new competition for musical theatre composers, Notes for the Stage. Composers are invited to submit a song on a seasonal theme, with the winning entrant receiving the chance to have their song performed in Christmas in New York at the Lyric Theatre, Shaftesbury Avenue. Entries will be considered by a panel consisting of Anna-Jane Casey, who will headline Christmas in New York, Musical Director of the show David Randall, composer Grant Olding, whose work will be presented in the show, and arts journalist Mark Shenton. Shortlisted entries will be workshopped and performed for the judges by young West End stars Julie Atherton and Paul Spicer, who are both founding members of the Notes from New York company. One winner will then be chosen to receive the main prize and package of support, which will comprise:
Following the initial prize and package of support offered to the winning entrant, Notes from New York will also commission a song for use in a future show and offer mentoring to the winning composer for a period of twelve months, which will include but is not limited to artistic consultations, the opportunity to workshop work and a package of financial assistance for expenses.
