The National Theatre production of Hedda Gabler is coming to Newcastle Theatre Royal in February 2018, running from 12 to 17.

The play is adapted by Patrick Marber (Closer, Three Days in the Country and The Red Lion, which he is adapting for Newcastle’s Live Theatre for performance in April) and directed by double Obie winner, Belgian director Ivo van Hove (Olivier Best Director and Critics’ Circle Best Director Awards for A View From the Bridge at the Young Vic in 2015) in his National Theatre debut.

The production, which stars Ruth Wilson, Kate Duchêne, Kyle Soller, Rafe Spall and Sinead Matthews, is currently playing in the National’s Lyttelton Theatre until 21 March. His next production for the NT will be the world première of Network based on the Oscar-winning film. It will feature a UK stage debut for Bryan Cranston.

The tour will begin on 2nd October 2017 at the Theatre Royal, Plymouth, and will end on 3 March 2018, in Milton Keynes.

“It has been a huge honour to work with the great Ivo van Hove on this version of Hedda Gabler at the National Theatre,” said Patrick Marber. “I am thrilled that this tour will enable more people to see his incredible production.”

Casting and further tour venues will be announced soon.
