Samuel Hodges, in his second year as director of Southampton's Nuffield Theatre, has announced the autumn and winter season including his directorial debut for the company.

After Michael Longhurst's revival of Caryl Churchill's A Number comes to Southampton, currently running at the Young Vic, Hodges will direct Tennessee Williams's The Glass Menagerie, designed by Olivier Award winner Ultz.

For Christmas, Ella Hickson and Olly Birch's adaptation of Merlin with music by Rob Castell will be directed by Liam Steel in a co-production with Royal and Derngate Theatre in Northampton.

There will also be a Nuffield Laboratory work-in-progress called Juicy and Delicious directed by Anthony Lau in November.

Visiting productions will include Little Bulb Theatre's music hall retelling of Orpheus, Belgrade Theatre and Sell a Door's musical adaptation of Ian Serrallier's novel The Silver Sword and Curve Leicester and Rose Theatre Kingston's production of Roald Dahl's The Witches.

For younger theatre-goers, there will be a new stage adaptation of What The Ladybird Heard by Julia Donaldson and Lydia Monks and a variety of Saturday shows.
