Trevor Nunn

Nunn to Direct Porgy and Bess

Trevor Nunn is to direct an adapted and reworked version of DuBose Heyward and George and Ira Gershwin's Porgy and Bess in the autumn. Nunn has previously directed it as an opera at Glyndebourne in 1986, rveived at the Royal Opera House in 1992 and adapted for television in 1993, but this will be a music theatre version, which is how the opera was orginally produced on Broadway in 1935, although it was intnded as a "folk opera". The music will be adapted by Gareth Valentine, musical supervisor for Sinatra at the London Palladium.

With a cast of forty and 20-piece orchestra and coting £3m, it will open at the Savoy on 9th November, previews from 25th October.
