Notes from New York First Anniversary Following four critically acclaimed shows to date, Notes from New York, the West End's first and only platform for contemporary US musical theatre, will return for the final time to celebrate its first anniversary with a special gala performance at the Trafalgar Studios on Sunday 21st November 2004, which will be headlined by soap siren Amy Nuttall and teen pop sensation Jon Lee, alongside young musical theatre stars and series regulars Julie Atherton and Paul Spicer, who will be joined by a selection of previous cast members. Celebrating the songs and shows of all nine composers so far profiled in the series, including Pulitzer Prize winner Jonathan Larson (Rent, Tick Tick Boom), Tony Award winner Jason Robert Brown (Songs for a New World, Parade, The Last Five Years) and the Grammy nominated Andrew Lippa (John & Jen, The Wild Party), this special first anniversary gala performance will also feature the UK and European première of material from Tim Acito's musical fairy tale Zanna Don't, which, following a critically acclaimed Off-Broadway run last year, will open on Broadway in Spring 2005. Amy Nuttall, whose theatre credits include Christine in Phantom of the Opera, is currently playing Chloe in ITV's Emmerdale and Jon Lee, who became a household name as a member of pop group S Club 7, recently starred as Marius in the West End production of Les Misèrables. Julie Atherton, fresh from her performance in the Chichester Festival Theatre production of Just So, is currently playing Serena in the West End production of Fame and Paul Spicer, whose extensive theatre credits include leads in The Witches of Eastwick and Taboo, will next star as the Prince in Sleeping Beauty at the Nottingham Playhouse this Christmas. Both Julie and Paul, who have headlined three of the four Notes from New York shows to date and are gaining a reputation as two of the UK's hottest young talents, return by popular demand. Launched in November 2003 to present a selection of brand new US musical theatre work in the West End for the very first time, Notes from New York has since developed something of a cult following and enjoyed a succession of sell-out shows, having played at the Arts Theatre, the Donmar Warehouse and most recently at the Trafalgar Studios, where it returns for this final gala performance, which will celebrate the best moments from all four previous shows as well as offering one or two unexpected musical treats. Produced by Neil Eckersley, Notes from New York is directed by David Randall, with associate direction and musical staging by co-founder of the series, Paul Spicer.
