The Octagon Theatre in Bolton has announced the casting for its season-closing production of Alan Bennett's Talking Heads monologues.

Directed by the theatre's associate director Ben Occhipinti, the production will comprise three episodes from the first series of Bennett's TV monologues: A Chip in the Sugar performed by David Birrell, A Lady of Letters performed by Cathy Tyson and, perhaps the most famous, A Cream Cracker Under the Settee performed by Sue Wallace.

Occhipinti said, "Alan Bennett’s Talking Heads are incredibly iconic, and rightly so. They are true masterpieces of drama that have the power to evoke laughter, empathy, frustration, and tears. They make the ordinary extraordinary and will be shared with our audiences by three phenomenal actors, David, Cathy and Sue.

"It is fantastic to be able to produce these monologues right here in the heart of Bolton and we can’t wait to invite our audiences in to see them."

Alongside this production will be three new monologues from winning writers of the inaugural National Octagon Prize directed by Occhipinti and artistic director Elizabeth Newman: Blue by Charlotte Josephine, Being Amazing by Ian Townsend and Nobody Can Never Get Us Back by Shauna Mackay.

Talking Heads will be performed at the Octagon Theatre Bolton from Thursday 8 June to Saturday 8 July 2017.
