Nonesuch Theatre is taking to Buxton Fringe an offbeat interpretation of Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice.

Ray Sutton’s Jane and Lizzy delves into the relationship between Austen and her endearing heroine Elizabeth Bennet.

As Jane enlists Lizzy’s help to recall and reclaim her story, the “familiar romantic fantasy of recent versions gives way to the sharp comic irony of the original novel”. Jane uses Lizzy to explore her characters’ absurd pretensions. Jane needs answers, but can Lizzy supply the ones she wants? Who is the author here, the writer or the actress, Jane or Lizzy?

Jane and Lizzy will be performed in the Studio at the Pavilion Arts Centre, Buxton on Wednesday 20 and Thursday 21 July at 7:45PM.
