Look Back in Anger Retrn to the Forbidden Planet

Oldham New Season

The Coliseum Theatre in Oldham has published the brochure for its spring and summer season.

It opens in March with a co-production with Harrogate Theatre and Pilot Theatre of John Osborne's notorious Look Back In Anger, directed by Pilot's Marcus Romer. This is followed in April by How The Other Half Loves by the great and prolific Alan Ayckbourn, delving into the lives and loves of three married couples.

In May, the Coliseum once again pairs up with Harrogate to present Bob Carlton's Olivier Award-winning 'musical' - one of the earliest and still one of the best shows created using existing popular songs - Return to the Forbidden Planet, directed by Coliseum artistic director Kevin Shaw.

The final summer production is Women on the Verge by Stones in his Pockets creator Marie Jones, following the journey of two 'women of a certain age' - Anna and Vera - as they journey from Belfast to Donegal to see singer Daniel O'Donnell in concert.

Visiting productions include Monte Doyle's Signpost to Murder starring Peter Amory of Emmerdale and Michelle Hardwick of The Royal, plus, in the studio, Enliven with Bloody Foreigners based on Albert by Richard Harris, 24/7 Theatre Festival award winner The Judgement of Mr Jenkins by Ross Andrews, Trapped by Michael Crowley from Hardact Theatre Company, Thingummajig Theatre with Want, written and performed by Andrew Kim, Love in (3) Parts from Lost Dog and Adventures in Mating by Joseph Scrimshaw from Strange Roads.

The Coliseum also presents children's theatre at Uppermill Civic Hall in Saddleworth, including an adaptation by Adam Bampton-Smith of Mo Willems's Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus! from Big Wooden Horse, Chris Speyer's new play A Handful of Sand presented by Monster Theatre, DNA's Chicken Licken and My Tree by Julian McLean from TheatreRotto.

There will be amateur productions of Buddy from Congress Players and Adrian Mitchell's dramatisation of The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe by Oldham Theatre Workshop.

Next year's panto has been announced as Jack and the Beanstalk, running from 24th November 2007 to 12th January 2008.
