Autumn/Winter in Oldham Oldham's Coliseum Theatre has announced the line-up of productions for its autumn and winter season for 2008 to 2009. The new season kicks off in September with a revival of the Coliseum's recent production of Brassed Off, adapted by Paul Allan from Mark Herman's popular British film script. The production, directed by artistic director Kevin Shaw, will once again feature local brass bands, including Dobcross Silver Band, Marsden Silver Riverhead Brewery Band, Mossley Band and Delph Band. Following this, Joyce Branagh will direct an adaptation of Graham Greene's Travels With My Aunt by Giles Havergal. As already announced, the Christmas pantomime this year will be Aladdin, directed by Kevin Shaw. In 2009, Tim Firth's Absolutely Frank, about a man who fixes giant signs to the sides of buildings but who wants to be a novelist, will end the Coliseum's own productions for the season. Charlotte Jones's Humble Boy, about a Cambridge academic returning to Middle England to look after his demanding mother after his father's death, will be directed by Michael Cabot for London Classic Theatre, and Hull Truck will pay a visit with Ladies Down Under by Amanda Whittington, directed by Gareth Tudor Price. Scamp's award-winning and highly acclaimed adaptation, written and directed by Simon Reade, of Michael Morpurgo's Private Peaceful will pay a visit to Oldham in February, as will Tara Arts with Jatimda Verma's production of Richard III by William Shakespeare. One-night shows include Tom Thumb by Marcello Chiarenza from Lyngo Theatre Company and Swan Lake from Ballet Russe, plus at Uppermill Civic Hall children's shows Funny Business starring Fraser Hooper, The am-A-zing Thing from Lempen Puppet Theatre Company, The Lighthouse Keeper's Lunch from Pied Piper Theatre Company, Little Red You Know Who from Freehand Theatre Company and an adaptation of Giles Andreae's picture book Giraffes Can't Dance from Blunderbus Theatre. In the studio, Back & Forth presents Beyond Measure, Fuse presents Shadow Companion by Avaes Mohammed, Hard Graft presents Poles Apart and Loci Productions presents Luke Walker's Mind The Gap, one of the participants in last year's 24:7 Theatre Festival.
