Dateline: 1st June, 2007
The 2007-2008 season at the Old Vic just announced sees a world premiere, a revival, the return of Kevin Spacey to the stage, two plays directed by Sam Mendes, and another Old Vic panto. The season opens with All About My Mother by Pedro Almodóvar in stage version by Samuel Adamson. This is the first time that Almodóvar has allowed an English stage version of any of his work. The most internationally acclaimed Spanish filmmaker since Luis Buñuel, Almodóvar's film Todo sobre mi madre was released in 1999. The play is directed by Tom Cairns and opens on 4th September following previews from 25th August. It is followed on 9th December (previews from 4th) by the panto, which this year will be Cinderella, written by Stephen Fry. No casting or other details have yet been announced. From January until April (no specific dates mentioned so far) Spacey will star in David Mamet's Speed-the-Plow which will be followed by the first two productions of Sam Mendes' Bridge Project: Stephen Dillane in Hamlet and The Tempest. The first production of the season, opening on 14th June (previews from 7th), will be a revival of Patrick Hamilton's Gaslight, starring Rosmund Pike. Please note that all three Archive indices are very long and will therefore take some time to download.
