Kevin Spacey

Spacey and Nunn Reunite at Old Vic

Trevor Nunn is to direct Kevin Spacey in a new production of Jerome Lawrence and Robert E. Lee's Inherit the Wind, which opens the new season at the Old Vic. It will run from 1st October (previews from 18th September) until 20th January.

Based on the 1925 Scopes "Monkey" trial in which science teacher John Scopes was accused of violating a Tennessee state statute by teaching Charles Darwin's theory of evolution to his students, the production marks the 150th anniversary of the publication of The Origin of Species.

Joining the creative team will be Rob Howell (designer), Howard Harrison (lighting) and Fergus O'Hare (sound).

Inherit the Wind will be followed by a revival of John Guare's Six Degrees of Separation, which will be directed by David Grindley. This will run from 19th January (previews from 7th) until 3rd April. The designer will be Jonathan Fensom, with lighting by Jason Taylor and sound by Gregory Clarke.

Spoeaking of the new season, Spacey said, "I had a wonderful experience working with Trevor Nunn on Richard II, and I am thrilled we'll be reunited for this timely production of Inherit the Wind. David Grindley's production of Six Degrees of Separation will, I am sure, be a highly anticipated event. These productions continue The Old Vic tradition of great plays and renowned creative talent and we're delighted to welcome two of Britain's finest theatre directors back to our stage."

On 1st November the Old Vic's 24 Hour Plays Gala will return for the sixth year in succession.
