Dateline: 25th January, 2004 One Minute at the Bush The Bush Theatre, in association with ATC and Sheffield Theatres, is to present the London premiere of One Minute by award winning playwright Simon Stephens, directed by Gordon Anderson, with Teresa Banham, Lucy Black, Sarah Paul, Tom Ellis and Simon Wolfe, from 4th - 28th February. A child goes missing, vanishes into thin air. The witnesses' statements are inconclusive and the police struggle without a clear case of understanding of a criminal motive. Like ripples from a stone in calm water, five characters, each with a different degree of separation from this tragic event, go about their lives trying to make sense of the unfathomable. One Minute asks how we console the inconsolable. Two men and three women are in thrall to the brutality and generosity of London; each has a broken dream; each contributes to the heartbreak of others. This is a beautiful, slow-burning and lyrical play about loss and devotion by one of Britain's most promising playwrights. Simon Stephen's first play Bring Me Sunshine was staged at the Assembly Rooms at the 1997 Edinburgh Fringe Festival, transferring to the Riverside Studios in London the same year. His next play, Bluebird, was produced by the Royal Court in London in 1998. Simon Stephens was writer-in-residence at the Royal Exchange Theatre in 1999 and in 2000 he was the Arts Council Resident Dramatist at the Royal Court. His next play, Herons (Royal Court 2001), was nominated for the Olivier Award for Most Promising Playwright. Port was awarded the Pearson Award for Best New Play in 2001/2. Gordon Anderson is Artistic Director of ATC. He has directed productions for some of the UK's leading theatre and opera companies including English Touring Opera, the Royal Court theatre, Scottish Opera, Manchester Royal Exchange, the Lyric Theatre Hammersmith, Broomhill Opera and the Bristol Old Vic. He has also worked on development projects for Channel 4, BBC, Alamo, Carlton and Tiger Aspect. ATC, now in its 23rd year, is committed to touring innovative contemporary work from the international repertoire to all areas of the United Kingdom. Since Gordon Anderson took over as Artistic Director in 2001, ATC has embarked on an eclectic programme involving collaborations with some of the most exciting of the UK's emerging theatre and comedy writers, designers and choreographers. Please note that all three Archive indices are very long and will therefore take some time to download.
