Opera North’s next visit to Newcastle will include two special events for children based around The Magic Flute.

First is a specially shortened version for children aged 7 and over which will be sung in English and be performed at Theatre Royal in a special schools-only matinée at 2:00 on Wednesday 13 March.

For even younger family members, The Mini Magic Flute, an interactive 30-minute retelling of Mozart’s story, will be performed by a trio of opera singers and an accordionist. It will be preceded by a half hour creative workshop where children will make their own paper bird which will feature in the story. The workshop finishes 15 minutes before the show begins.

Venue, dates and times are:

  • Sunday 16 February at 12:15 : The Witham, Barnard Castle
  • Saturday 16 March at 10:50 and 12:20 (with a relaxed performance at 3:00) : Seven Stories, Newcastle
  • Sunday 17 March at 11:15 : Queen’s Hall Library, Hexham
  • Sunday 17 March at 3:15 : Amble Parish Hall
