Our Country's Good goes on tour

The first dates of a UK tour for Max Stafford-Clark's revival of Our Country's Good have been announced.

The Olivier Award-winning play by Timberlake Wertenbaker is based on Thomas Keneally's novel The Playmaker. It concerns the true story of a ragbag cast of convicts, who put on a play under the guidance of an earnest young marine officer, Ralph Clark. As the barriers between captors and captives break down, they start to discover each other, both onstage and behind the scenes.

Our Country’s Good premièred at the Royal Court Theatre before transferring to the West End and Broadway. This production toured prior to transferring to the St James Theatre last year.

Timberlake Wertenbaker writes, adapts and translates for both stage and radio. Her writing credits include The Third, Abel’s Sister, The Grace Of Mary Traverse, The Love Of The Nightingale and Jenufa And The Line. Amongst her works credits are Marivaux’s False Admissions, Sophocles’ The Thebans, Euripides’ Hecuba and Anouilh’s< em>Wild Orchards.

Our Country's Good is presented by Out of Joint and Octagon Theatre Bolton. The tour will visit Fairfield Halls, Croydon from 23 to 26 April, Mercury Theatre, Colchester from 29 April to 3 May, Bristol Old Vic from 21 May to 29 June and then Guthrie Theatre, Minneapolis, US in September.
