Peshkar to Tour Camp X-Ray Play Peshkar Productions, a South Asian theatre and production company based in Oldham, is to tour In God We Trust, a play set against the backdrop of Camp X-Ray in Guantanamo bay. Upon the world's stage Guantanamo Bay has raised itself to iconic status. Approximately 650 different men from over forty nationalities have been captured: the one thread that binds these strangers to each other is that of their faith. In God We Trust has less to say about the cages and chains of Guantanamo Bay and more about the captives, exploring the relationship between two young Muslim men who find sanctuary in faith in order to survive amidst a violent and degrading environment. It is written by Avaes Mohammad, a Manchester based artist with skills as a musician, vocalist, poet, script-writer and actor, who says of the play, "Detention without proper trial can only be implemented by a people fixed in the falsehood of their own superiority over the culture of another. But refusing to be perceived as destitute victims, thirsty for a sympathetic tear, Ive also tried to explore the Muslim world's own responsibility for this humiliation suffered today." Tour Dates
