Pete and Dud Come to Leicester Square

One of the hits of the 2005 Edinburgh Fringe, Pete and Dud - Come Again (four stars from the BTG and the Scotsman, five from The List), is to play at The Venue in Leicester Square from 7th March (previews from 2nd) and booking initially to 3rd June.

Based around the relationship between Peter Cook and Dudley Moore and expanded from the 65 minutes of the Edinburgh version, it stars Kevin Bishop as Moore (he played the part in Edinburgh) and Tom Goodman-Hill, who takes over as Peter Cook from Scott Handy. Also in the cast are Alex Kirk as chat show host Tony Ferguson (who bears more than a passing resemblance to Michael Parkinson) with Colin Hoult (Jonathan Miller and other roles) and Fergus Craig (Alan Bennett and other roles).

Unique amongst works about Dudley Moore and Peter Cook, the play focuses on Dudley’s side of the story, unraveling around the setting of his being interviewed on a Parkinson-style chat show having returned from Hollywood stardom in 1982.

Peter Cook unexpectedly intervenes in the proceedings, and through a combination offlashbacks and dialogue in the setting of the TV studio, we follow the ups and downs of this ultimate showbiz marriage. Along the way, comedy material in the inimitable style of Moore and Cook helps to tell the story and remind us why they remain one of the most enduring comedy partnerships in the public imagination.

The play is written by Nick Awde and Chris Bartlett, and directed by Owen Lewis, a past winner of the RSC/Buzz Goodbody directing award. It is produced in the West End by by Simon and Siobhan Rhodes-Johnson, Lee Menzies, Bob Boyett and James Seabright.
