Phantom Sequel News

The sequel to Andrew Lloyd Webber's The Phantom of the Opera will probably premiere in London in November 2009, the composer has said.

The show's working title, Lloyd Webber told the BBC, is Phantom: Once Upon Another Time. According to a report in the Daily Mail, the plot will be "The Phantom has slipped away to New York and has set up a fairground world on Coney Island, along with Madame Giry and her daughter, Meg. He organizes a concert in Manhattan for Christine, the object of his desire. Christine travels to the U.S. with her husband Raoul and their teenage son, who happens to be a musical genius...just like the Phantom."

American lyricist Glenn Slater (Disney's The Little Mermaid, Leap of Faith and Sister Act) has been working on words for Lloyd Webber's music. The composer will also write the book for the musical, it is said.

Jack O'Brien (Hairspray, The Invention of Love and The Coast of Utopia) will direct, with design by Bob Crowley.
