Experimental: Playbox Theatre's base, The Dream Factory

Young people’s theatre company Playbox has revealed details of an experimental research and development department and wants to hear from anyone eager to get involved.

Playbox, which is based at The Dream Factory, Warwick, will run a series of pilot projects in the summer before officially opening in October 2016.

P:LAB is designed to encourage and support “experiments, provocations and challenges from young artists across the region and beyond”.

P:LAB will be based in one of Playbox Theatre’s studio spaces. Consultant director Stewart McGill said, “if we hook up with a project that seeks to convert our main space, we’ll do it. We’re determined to be proactive in encouraging young artists to take risks, explore areas of discovery, provoke and evoke!

“We want to open our lab to anyone who feels they need research and development time and support. It’s been great seeing companies emerge from here over the years playing at festivals, on tours and setting up new projects. Some of these will be our associates—it’s a very exciting new division of our work and appropriately comes as we celebrate our 30 years being at the forefront of young people’s theatre.”

Artists, performers, project directors, companies and musicians who would like to take part in P:LAB should contact Playbox on 01926 419555 or e-mail [email protected].
