The Pina Bausch Foundation (Wuppertal, Germany) and the École des Sables (Toubab Dialaw, Senegal) will collaborate for the first time on an exchange project sharing their creative environments and exploring their common ground.

Dancers with a background in African dance will perform Pina Bausch's Le Sacre du printemps. It will be cast from a workshop tour to Burkina Faso, Senegal and the Ivory Coast with past and present dancers of Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch as stagers, passing on the choreography. For the second part of the project, Germaine Acogny and a former ensemble member of the Tanztheater Wuppertal will co-choreograph and perform a new duet.

The double bill will première in spring 2020 at Théâtre National Daniel Sorano (Dakar, Senegal), followed by outdoor performances at the Centre Culturel Blaise Senghor (Dakar, Senegal) and the Opernhaus (Wuppertal, Germany). International tours in Africa and across Europe will be developed together with the Sadler’s Wells (London, United Kingdom). The Théâtre de la Ville (Paris, France) will be a special partner in this project.
