A trio of politically engaged plays come to Liverpool Playhouse this spring

Whether it’s a look at diplomacy in England’s bid to host the World Cup in The Three Lions, Headlong’s expose of a New Labour election campaign in David Hare’s The Absence of War or an exploration of a modern sporting icon and the battle it takes to succeed off the field in Out of Joint’s Crouch, Touch, Pause, Engage, the plays examine famous faces in private places.

The Three Lions reveals what really happened when Prince William met David Cameron in David Beckham’s hotel room the night before England’s ill-fated bid to host the 2018 FIFA World Cup. From March 16 to 21

Another story that lifts the lid on the corridors of power is David Hare’s The Absence of War, a timely political drama in the run up to May’s General Election. It runs from March 24 to 28.

Crouch, Touch, Pause, Engage illuminates the stories of Welsh rugby legend Gareth Thomas—a trailblazer for being the first openly-gay professional rugby union player.

It runs from April 21 to 25.
