An Opportunity for Actors and Directors Do you want to perform Shakespeare and other classics and would like the chance to test yourself against the Olivier auditorium? If you are an actor (or director) who has been in the business not less than two years and not more than ten then the Society for Theatre Research in association with the National Theatre offers a great opportunity to work with leading members of the profession and top voice experts on classic texts. And it is all for free. The STR has been running the Poel Event since 2007 as a replacement for the former Poel Festival, feeling that there was a greater need for support for actors establishing their careers than for what was becoming a shop window for students. It consists of a day of workshops, two using the full space of the Olivier theatre. Past workshop leaders have included Greg Doran, Sir Ian McKellen, Clare Higgins, Oliver Ford Davies, Barry Rutter, Braham Murray and Prunella Scales. This year's event takes place on Tuesday, 4th October 2011 when, as well as masterclasses on text and performance from leading members of the profession, there will be sessions with the National theatre's voice expert Jeanette Nelson and voice teacher Barbara Houseman, all examining ways of making the language of classic plays audible and comprehensible. You will also work with and leading members of the profession: an actor and a director who will run master classes on voice, text and performance. Two of the four sessions will take place using the Olivier stage and auditorium. If you are interested in taking part more information & application forms can be found at poel.str.org.uk. Enquiries to the organiser, Michael Gaunt, at poel@str.org.uk There are 20 places only but there is still a chance to be considered. Get your application in now. Note: This is a closed event. It is not open to spectators.
Please note that all three Archive indices are very long and will therefore take some time to download.
