What's On at the Polka

The Polka Children's Theatre has announced its summer 2003 season:

In the Main Theatre...

THE HAPPY PRINCE
15th - 26th April and 17th - 28th June
for children aged 4 - 7
An abandoned park comes to life; birds fly and little creatures scuffle in the overgrown plants and discarded rubbish. A boy and a girl arrive in the park, both with a tale to tell, and finding all they need in the garden, they begin their story of a little swallow who takes a rest one day next to the golden statue of The Happy Prince... Full of magic and music, Annie Wood's adaptation of Oscar Wilde's classic tale promises to be a princely treat for the Easter holidays!

WHY THE WHALES CAME

for children aged 8 - 13
Theatre Alibi brings you a gripping island adventure in May with Why the Whales Came. Based on the novel by best-selling author Michael Morpurgo, it tells the story of two friends, Gracie and Daniel, who befriend the 'Birdman' and find themselves unravelling the haunting secrets of Samson Island...

THE STORY OF THE LITTLE GENTLEMAN
10th - 14th June
for children aged 4 - 7
To kick off our 'Polka Summer Shorts' season, the award-winning Catherine Wheels Theatre Company brings you a beautiful new play about the power of friendship. The Story of the Little Gentleman is a great introduction to physical theatre and also features live music and an original score.

PEACEMAKER

An exciting new show from M6 Theatre Company with dance, circus skills and puppetry, telling the compelling tale of the Reds and the Blues - two rival communities divided by a single wall...

MARTHA'S WILD GOOSE CHASE
8thJuly - 9th August
for children aged 4 - 8
A smash on Broadway, Martha's Wild Goose Chase is a hysterical, but ultimately moving tale of how a dancing goose warms the heart of a reclusive old woman and changes her life forever. Definitely one not to miss!

We've a different adventure each week with visiting companies, including CTC Theatre, Theatr Iolo and performance storyteller, Sandra Agard. And then in June...

HOME FROM HOME
19th June - 9th August
for children aged 3 - 5
What happens when people are forced to leave their home? Join Luka in this gentle new play with puppetry and clowning as his journey leads him to a new home and a new friend.

But that's not all - there's a packed programme of drama clubs and workshops for the half-term and Summer holidays, including a chance to take over Polka for a week and perform on the Main Stage as part of the Polka Summer School! Check out the website for further details.
