New Producers' Bursaries

Stage One and Society of London Theatre's New Producers' Bursaries are open for applications.

The Bursaries for New Producers scheme provides financial and practical assistance to new commercial theatre producers with a view to furthering their careers. The scheme aims to facilitate and encourage the development of the next generation of commercial theatre producers.

The awards provide financial assistance to new producers by contributing towards the costs of the productions, enabling them to have their subsistence paid whilst they concentrate on developing projects, and by helping with the costs of professional fees. The bursary provides an experienced practitioner as mentor, and may also, in some circumstances, provide shared office space in central London.

The Bursary is intended for individuals who have relatively little experience of theatrical producing but are planning to pursue it as a career. Applicants must show how a bursary award would develop their producing career. The project/s must be related to live performance but applications are considered for a variety of activities (e.g. productions, workshops, try-out, development, research). The Panel may give preference to those applicants who are developing more than one project, especially if one of these has commercial potential.

The bursary award comprises:

Financial Award
Producers granted a bursary are awarded a sum up to a maximum of £15k for assistance with any combination of:
- subsistence salary and expenses for the duration of the project/s
- direct payment of professional fees (e.g. lawyers,
accountants)
- contribution to financing productions / workshops / try-outs.

Mentoring
An established producer or general manager is appointed by the Panel as a mentor for the duration of the project/s.

London Office Space
Some shared office space in central London is also available, for restricted periods.
