Rural touring theatre company Pentabus and principal black-led national touring company Eclipse Theatre Company together have produced a series of six audio dramas about race and racism in the countryside.

White Open Spaces: 2006-2016 responds to a collection of monologues from 2006 produced in reaction to former chairman of the Equality and Human Rights Commission and broadcaster Trevor Phillip’s termed ‘cultural apartheid’ in the countryside.

The six sharp, funny and provocative pieces have three new stories and revisit three of the original to look at race and identity today.

The dramas have been directed by Elizabeth Freestone and Dawn Walton and are:

  • Completely See-Through by Francesca Beard performed by Jade Anouka
  • Black Peter Pan by Leah Chillery performed by Larrington Walker
  • You Say by Lorna French performed by Alisha Bailey
  • A Question of Courage by Courttia Newland performed by Richie Campbell
  • Joy's Prayer by Ian Marchant performed by Susan Brown
  • Jerusalem by Testament performed by Testament
