Rachel Kempson

Actress Rachel Kempson, widow of Sir Michael Redgrave and mother of Lynne, Corin and Vanessa Redgrave, has died, aged 92, at the granddaughter Natasha Richardson's home in Millbrooke, New York State. She had travelled to New York in March with Vanessa Redgrave who is appearing in O'Neill's Long Day's Journey into Night on Broadway.

She made her debut in 1933 in a production of Much Ado in Stratford and married Michael Redgrave in 1935. She had a long and distinguished stage career, working with the English Stage Company, the RSC and the National Theatre among many others.

Her work in film included an appearance with Lynn Redgrave in Tom Jones and with her two other children in The Charge of the Light Brigade. She also made a number of television appearances.
