Dateline: 25th April, 2007
Scottish crime novelist Ian Rankin, the creator of Inspector Rebus, is to write the libretto for a 15-minute opera with composer Craig Armstrong. Scottish Opera has commissioned Rankin and four other Scottish writers to write libretti and paired them up with composers, as part of a new initiative to attract new audineces to opera. They have until November to complete the works and they will be performed in Edinburgh and Glasgow in February. According to a report in The Scotsman, Scottish Opera is expected to ask one pair to develop their work into a full length opera. Please note that all three Archive indices are very long and will therefore take some time to download.
