Dateline: 5th August, 2004
Rep Looking for Young Writers Birmingham Repertory Theatre is looking for writers aged 12 to 25 from across the Midlands to take part in its Transmissions project. Since it began in 1998 Transmissions has worked with more than 200 young writers. Many of them have gone on to become successful dramatists, including 18-year-old David Watson from Solihull who's had plays performed at the Royal Court Theatre in London and who'll be part of this year's International Young Playwrights' Festival at The Rep. Transmissions involves young people developing a script over a period of nine months by attending fortnightly playwriting workshops with professional writers. At the end of the current project, the young writers will have their plays produced by a team of professional actors, directors and designers as part of the Transmissions Festival at the Rep next July. To apply for a place, send your name, address and telephone number, a one-page outline (about 250 words) and a scene from the play to Caroline Jester at Birmingham Repertory Theatre, Broad Street, Birmingham B1 2EP. For further information or advice call Caroline on 0121 245 2037. The deadline for submissions is September 30th. The team behind Transmissions will be holding a free taster session for any interested young writers on Saturday, September 12th at Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery at 12 noon. Please note that all three Archive indices are very long and will therefore take some time to download.
