The Place’s annual, New Year festival of short live dance and performance works by emerging artists returns for its 28th year in 2017.

From 12 January to 25 February, audiences can sample three brand new short works each night, with a total of 78 performances across a range of dance styles throughout the month. This year’s eclectic programme features work from Flamenco to hip-hop to Zouk, with topics from cloud patterns to American politics explored on stage.

Resolution offers a platform for artists to present their work on an established London stage, with support and guidance throughout the process. This year, Breakin’ Convention, Jacksons Lane, Rambert and Grad-Lab Dance development project supported by The Point, Eastleigh have joined with The Place to co-present work in the festival.

The festival has, in the past, been a starting point for choreographers such as Luca Silvestrini (Protein), Wayne McGregor, Eva Recacha, Katie Prince (Zoonation), Frauke Requardt, Drew McOnie, and Barely Methodical Troupe (winner of the Total Theatre & Jacksons Lane Award for Circus).

In addition to performance work, Resolution offers participants workshops on all aspects of producing a show and also operates as a training scheme for young critics, who are given the chance to work alongside established dance writers including Graham Watts, Sarah Crompton, Sanjoy Roy, Lyndsey Winship and Josephine Leask.
