New Welsh Culture Minister The Plaid Cymru Welsh Assembly Member for Carmarthen East and Dinefwr, Rhodri Glyn Thomas, has been appointed Minister for Heritage (which includes tourism, Cadw, arts, sports and the Welsh Language) as part of the new coalition cabinet. Cadw is the historic environment service of the Welsh Assembly Government, which aims to protect and sustain, encourage community engagement in and improve access to the historic environment of Wales. This includes historic buildings, ancient monuments, historic parks, gardens and landscapes, and underwater archaeology. AM Thomas' portfolio, then, is very wide-ranging. In the Assembly elections in May there was no overall winner, so, after lengthy discussion, Labour and Plaid Cymru have formed a coalition.
