Richard Alston Dance Company will present eight works on tour, including a world première of brand new piece Chacony inspired by the music of Henry Purcell and Britten’s String Quartet No. 2, Stronghold by associate choreographer Martin Lawrance to a score by Pulitzer Prize winning composer Julia Wolfe and Tangent in which Lawrance explores the accents and attack in tango maestro Piazzolla's music played live by Jason Ridgway on piano.

Touring the UK, Germany and the US, the upcoming season includes An Italian in Madrid, which features two performances nominated for Critics' Circle National Dance Awards in 2016 from Vidya Patel and Liam Riddick. Vidya Patel was also nominated last year in the Emerging Artist category and was a grand finalist for BBC Young Dancer of the Year in 2015.

Other highlights include Alston’s Gypsy Mixture, which will be revived for the first time in a decade, Nomadic, which mixes Asian-influenced traditional Romany singing, Isthmus Remix with music by Japanese composer Jo Kondo and the revival of Dutiful Ducks, which was created for Michael Clark in 1982, now danced by Liam Riddick.

Richard Alston, Artistic Director of The Place, said, “as you know if you have seen this company before, the inspiration of music is at the very heart of what we do. With a group of dancers who have been with me for four to seven years I’m confident that the stages will truly light up this spring. I hope you come and have a good time with us!”
