Free open-air production: Masca Theatre

Romanian company Masca Theatre, currently on its first UK tour, is to perform The Forgotten Crafts of Paris in Leicester Cathedral Gardens.

Leicester-based cultural development agency ArtReach is hosting the event. Director David Hill said, “it’s great to have Masca Theatre’s riveting performances with accomplished actors delivering a range of characters that are presented through silent comedy, mask, costume and unrivalled theatricality. Without doubt Masca is one of Romania’s finest theatrical exports.”

Inspired by Alfred Franklin, Marcel Proust, Emile Zola and Jean–Jaques Rousseau, The Forgotten Crafts of Paris is a “living statues” production that features characters from the 1800s depicting various jobs that are no longer practised.

Admission to The Forgotten Crafts of Paris is free. It will be staged on Wednesday 18 July at 11:30AM, 2PM and 4PM and Thursday 19 July at 12PM and 2:30PM.

Audiences will also have the chance to explore inside the cathedral Arabella Dorman’s Suspended, a piece of artwork that explores and highlights the current worldwide refugee crisis. The installation is a display of items of clothing discarded on the Greek island of Lesbos as refugees undertook life-threatening journeys.
