Dateline: 24th November, 2004 Two Revivals and Two Premieres
Edinburgh's Royal Lyceum Theatre is to present two revivals and two premieres in its January to April season 2005. Osborne's Look Back in Anger, the play that changed British theatre, opens the season and Tom McGrath's Laurel & Hardy brings it to an end. In between are the two premieres: Sharman Macdonald's Girl with Red Hair and John Clifford's new stage version of Tolstoy's Anna Karenina. Look Back in Anger will star Kelly Reilly and David Tennant and runs from 14th January to 12th February. First produced in 1956, it was described by Kenneth Tynan as a minor miracle the best young play of its decade.
It is followed by Girl with Red Hair, which runs from 18th February to 12th March. Produced in association with the Bush Theatre, is a portrait of human relationships. In a small town on the west coast of Scotland, three generations are profoundly affected by the death of seventeen year-old Roslyn. Intimate personal details are revealed between friends and strangers, old and young, who are struggling to make peace with themselves. Sharman Mcdonald, a Scottish writer who has been associated with the Bush since 1984 when her first play When I was a Girl I used to Scream and Shout was produced there. John Clifford's version of Tolstoy's classic novel runs from 19th March to 16th April, and is followed by Laurel and Hardy (23rd April to 14th May).
