"Post-modern" African dance company Sakoba will be touring in the new year with two new pieces by choreographer Bode Lawal, Sango and Iyanu. In these two pieces Bodal Lawal lessens the more orthodox reliance on narrative and delves down the road of abstract movement. Sango, named after the Yoruba god of thunder, is rooted in the heritage of African Diaspora and is a post-modern interpretation of traditional ritualistic dance as practiced in Nigeria. Iyanu (Miracle) is an abstract dance, formed without thematic support, relying solely upon pure movement which is unique and innovative, yet rooted in Nigerian cultural technique. The tour goes to:
As part of their Spring 2006 tour, Bode Lawal will be running several dance masterclasses for aspiring dancers (the dancers must have dancer training or be performing arts students - for people 14yrs and above).
