Thirty Years of Salisbury

To start the celebrations for Salisbury Playhouse's thirtieth anniversay, the theatre will present the world premiere of a new musical by Howard Goodall (The Hired Man) with book by the theatre's artistic director Joanna Read, who will also direct the production.

Two Cities is inspired by Dickens’ A Tale of Two Cities. When Lucy Mannersly, a beautiful Russian orphan brought up in London discovers her father is still alive in a St Petersburg prison her story begins. Two men – Sydney Carton, a dissolute London Lawyer, and Yevgeny Irtenev, an émigré Russian nobleman – become bitter rivals for her affections. Lucy, Sydney and Yevegeny are prepared to risk all in the name of love. But as the ghosts of their past gather to haunt them they realise that love also demands sacrifice.

The production will run from 5th to 30th September.
