Dateline: 15th January, 2006 Sansom Goes to Northampton Laurie Sansom, associate director and director of education at the Stephen Jospeh Theatre, Scarborough, is to take over Northampton's Royal and Derngate Theatres in March. He takes over from Rupert Gould who took over the Oxford Stage Company last August. Gould in turn was taking over the position vacated by Dominic Dromgoole, who replaces Mark Rylance at Shakespeare's Globe. Sansom began his career at the National Student Drama Festival and then worked at the Watford Palace with Giles Croft (now at Nottingham Playhouse). He joined the SJT in 2002. The Northampton Theatres have been closed since April for a £14m redevelopment and are due to re-open in June. I feel very privileged to be part of the team leading the Royal and Derngate into its next remarkable phase," Sansom said. "Whilst developing the recent reputation for dynamic retellings of classic plays and stories, I aim to make Northampton a place where the nations most exciting actors and theatre makers want to create genuinely unique projects. We will ensure that not only do we present the best in live performance, but also place this wonderful resource at the very heart of the community." The theatres' chief executive Donna Munday said, We are so excited that Laurie is joining us as we move towards our reopening. We think he is an exceptional director and cant wait to welcome our audiences back to see the wonderful work he will create in Northampton. He will be a great addition to the team that will deliver our breathtaking new building. Please note that all three Archive indices are very long and will therefore take some time to download.
