Su Pollard will play the Wicked Queen in Sunderland Empire’s 2021 panto, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, which will run from Friday 10 December 2021 until Sunday 2 January 2022.

Best known as the often over-enthusiastic chalet maid Peggy Ollerenshaw in the 1980s sitcom Hi-De-Hi, set in a seaside holiday camp in 1959–1960, she actually began her career coming second to a singing Jack Russell terrier in Opportunity Knocks in 1974, when she sang “I’m just a girl who cain’t say no” from Oklahoma.

Now 71, she has had a long stage and TV career and is currently touring in Harpy, a one-woman show specially written for her by South Shields-born playwright Philip Meeks, which is coming to Middlesbrough Theatre on 28 October and Alnwick Playhouse on 29.

She is a very experienced panto performer, having appeared in Pinocchio, Aladdin, Jack and the Beanstalk, Dick Whittington, Babes In The Wood, Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, Peter Pan and Cinderella. In fact, her last appearance at Sunderland Empire was as the Wicked Queen in Snow White back in 2014.

She joins the already announced Miss Rory (aka Dan Cunningham) as Nurse Rorina and South Shields comic Tom Whalley as Muddles the Jester.
