Nominations have been announced for the South Bank Show Awards, given
by the ITV1 arts flagship programme. Among the nominations are:

- Akram Khan for Ma, premiered in the UK at the Edinburgh
Festival
- Phoenix Dance at the West Yorkshire Playhouse, under new Artistic
Director Darshan Singh Bhuller
- Wayne Mcgregor for Ataxia with his company Random Dance,
premiered at Sadler’s Wells
The Breakthrough Award
A new award for newcomers in any art form.
- Ben Whishaw, actor, for his Hamlet
at the Old Vic.
- James McAvoy, TV actor (Shameless, State of Play)
- Nicola Benedetti, musician: seventeen-year-old Scottish violinist
- Mark Stone, opera baritone.
- Lauren Cuthbertson, dancer.
- Razorlight, pop group
- Andrea Levy, writer.
- Will Smith, stand-up comedian.
- Amma Asante, film director.
- Lali Chetwynd, visual artist
The winners will be announced in January.
