Dateline: 30th November, 2003 SCDA To Lose Its SAC Funding The Scottish Community Drama Association (SCDA), the umbrella organisation for amateur drama in Scotland, is to lose its £58,000 grant from the Scottish Arts Council (SAC) in March next year. The money is to be diverted to a new organisation, the National Association of Scottish Theatre for Youth, which SAC is setting up. Although the SAC money comprises only a small part of SCDA's annual £60m budget, the organisation has pledged to fight the decision. "There is going to be a huge fight," Colin Peter, national vice-chairman told The Scotsman. "We are a major voice in Scottish theatre. We will be rallying not only all our clubs but professional theatre, everybody in theatre, and we will be shouting from the rooftops in every way." The decision comes in a week when Scottish theatre has been shocked by SAC's earlier decision to divert funds from four of Scotland's best known companies (TAG, 7:84, Suspect Culture and Borderline) to children's theatre (see our story). Please note that all three Archive indices are very long and will therefore take some time to download.
