Self-Assessment "Crucial", Says McMaster The role of self-assessment in reviewing arts organisations for fundi purposes is "crucial", Brian McMaster has said. Speaking at a debate on peer review in funding decisions at Sadler's Wells, he said that the artist is ultimately the best person to communicate about the work and that, by undegoing self-assessment, artists express what they are trying to achieve. He also said that arts organisations should have some say in who would be responsible for their peer review, for the reviewers should have an understanding of the organisation and its aims. He agreed that organisations which are in receipt of public money must be reviewed but that the process should not "stifle" the arts.
