The Sherman in Autumn

Cardiff's Sherman Theatre has announced uits autumn 2004 season:

Friday 10 – Saturday 11 September

National Youth Theatre of Wales
Whispers in the Wood by Greg Cullen
Inspired by the surreal nature of traditional fairy stories, this bi-lingual production is performed by a cast of 45 young performers drawn from all over Wales. Story-telling, stunning visuals and original music and choreography are brought together in this multi-media spectacle.

Written by Myfanwy Alexander this topical comedy sketch show for BBC Radio Wales gives the weeks headlines a hysterical twist.

The River
Rose is a young girl whose father has a sexual appetite for young girls. When his teenage lover dies Rose has to face up to her father’s somewhat ambiguous involvement in her death - something which she finds to be in disturbing contrast to her childhood image of her father as the teller of fairy stories.

Aled Jones’ Lysh won this year’s National Eisteddfod Drama Commission for Theatre Bara Caws. Based on the author’s own struggle with his demons this piece is an honest, often funny but harrowing journey through shadows that can so easily cross all our paths.

Paul Robeson Knew My Father

A passionate and funny tale inspired by the legendary Paul Robeson. Gethyn reflects on his childhood growing up in the1950’s in the South Wales Valleys. He remembers the desperate search for his father and how he retreated into a world dominated by Robeson's films and music, to hide away from the truth surrounding his identity. Then, when a black road-worker moves into his community, Gethyn is convinced that Paul Robeson has returned to save him.

Forkbeard Fantasy, maestros of comic-cine theatre, celebrate their 30th year with a murder mystery comedy set in the pioneering days of Early Cinema. Some fledgling movie moguls, desperate to raise the status of film making, enlist the help of mighty theatrical impresarios to shoot the first ever silent Tempest.

Muttnik is a stray. She lives on the streets of Moscow, cold and hungry until one day she is captured. To her surprise, she finds herself in a shiny new home with food, water and adventures better than dreams. She is living at the Russian Space Centre and has been selected to be the first dog in space!

An evening of raw talent from Acting Out Cardiff
The Sherman Theatre & Cardiff Schools Service’s alternative education project – Acting Out Cardiff - continues to go from strength to strength.
This year’s Year 11 students will perform a pre-Christmas cabaret complete with speciality acts as well as music, dance, circus and comedy.
