Sky to Reprise Theatre Live!

TV channel Sky Arts is to run a second series of Theatre Live!, ther live broadcasting of new plays for theatre which had its premiere series in June last year.

In 2009 the plays were all by non-dramatists (poets and novelists primarily) but this year's series - now called Sky Arts Playhouse - Live - will feature plays by established playwrights. As last year, Sandi Toksvig will be the series' artistic director.

The plays will be:

9th June
The Typist
By Rebecca Lenkiewicz, directed by Bijan Sheibani

16th June
Ghost Story
Written and directed by Mark Ravenhill

23rd June
Hens
By Alia Bano, directed by Peter Gill

30th June
Crocodile
By Frank McGuinness, directed by Toby Frow

7th July
Here
By Eve Ensler, directed by Josie Rourke

Each play will preview at the Riverside Studios for four nights before the live broadcasts.

"With Playhouse: Live," said Sandi Toksvig, "we're staying true to the theatrical experience whilst simultaneously ensuring that we successfully marry the components of theatre and television that make each experience so unique."

Sky Arts: Playhouse will be broadcast on Sky Arts 2 HD and Sky Arts 2 at 9pm.
