Gill's Small Change Returns to Wales This weekend the Sherman Cymru previews the first Welsh production of Peter Gill's Small Change since the 1970s. Gill directed the premier at the Royal Court in 1976, and the play, widely regarded as his finest, was revived by Gill at the Donmar last year to critical acclaim, when the Telegraph lauded "the austere, incantatory quality of Gill's writing" and the BTG's Philip Fisher described it as "a fascinating revival". Directing the Sherman production is Amy Hodge. "Small Change is essentially a story of life in post war Cardiff; how fun it could be for kids, how tough it could be for mothers and how fundamentally we are all shaped and often trapped by the events of our past," says Hodge. "It's very clearly based in the Tremorfa area of Cardiff, where Peter Gill himself grew up, and is filled with rich imagery of Cardiff as it used to be." The production opens on March 25th and runs at the Sherman until 11 April. Allison Vale
