Dateline: 20th May, 2007
Edinburgh Fringe venue operator Paradise Green Promotions is to open a storeroom below Augustine United Church on George IV Bridge as what will be the smallest regular theatre in Edinburgh, seating just 42 people. Paradise Green already operate two Edinburgh Fringe venues in the church itself, as well as the Greyfriar's Kirk House, but the new threatre will be open throughout the year. Director Thomas Sandford told The Scotsman, "This is a slightly grotty space way below the actual church but it's accessible off Candlemaker Row. "We've been speaking to the church for some time about a project like this and we obviously know each other very well because of our Fringe programmes. "We'll obviously be using the space ourselves during the Festival on top of the two we already have in the church itself, but throughout the year it'll be made available to other theatre companies." Access to the new theatre, to be called The Vault, will be from Merchant Street, off Candlemaker Row. The cost of conversion is expected to be in the region of £50,000. It be available for private functions, conferences and lectures, as well as being used as a theatre. Please note that all three Archive indices are very long and will therefore take some time to download.
