Dateline: 4th December, 2003 SNT Chair Named The chair of the Scottish National Theatre is to be Richard Findlay, a graduate of the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama, who gave up acting after three years, having decided that he was only "competent" and is now, at 59, the group chief executive of Scottish Radio Holdings,a media conglomerate which owns 23 radio stations, among them Radios Forth and Clyde, and forty newspapers. He was chairman of Edinburgh's Royal Lyceum Theatre for six years, taking over when the theatre was at a low ebb. He was in the chair when Kenny Ireland was appointed as artistic director and together they managed to turn the theatre around, introducing a series of successful co-productions. ireland is thought to be a leading contender for the post of artistic director of the SNT. Scottish Executive culture minster Frank McAveety said of Findlay, "He has a clear grasp of the task before him, and he will ensure flair and vision in the appointment of the creative director, and excitement and glamour in the productions themselves."
