Sondheim at the Proms Stephen Sondheim's 80th birthday this year will be celebrated by a special BBC Proms concert devoted entirely to his music on 31st July. It will be broadcast live on both BBC2 and Radio 2. Taking part will be Bryn Terfel, who played Sweeney Todd in a special concert version at the Royal Festival Hall in 2007. He is joined by Maria Friedman who played Mrs Lovett in that 2007 performance and who also starred in the London premiere of Sunday in the Park with George at the National Theatre and the UK premiere of Passion in 1996. They will be joined by Simon Russell Beale. Martin Duncan will directand the BBC Concert Orchestra will be conducted by David Charles Abell. It is understood that Sondheim will attend the performance.
