Sound Theatre to Close

The Sound Theatre in Leicester Square, the latest theatre to open in the West End, is to close in September after Jonathan Harvey's Beautiful Thing, currently in preview, closes on 26th August. The building of which the 150-seater theatre is part, the Swiss Centre, is to be redeveloped as a hotel.

Other parts of the complex - the bar, restaurant and nightclub - will move to another building in Leicester Square but there will be no space for the theatre. However the management have said that they hope to find another venue and are actively pursuing possibilities, but there is no news at present.

The thare opened ust over a year ago but its first management, KIT Productions, went out of business after its Christmas show, Snow the Musical, failed, and since then it has been operating as a receiving house.
