Spring and summer 2018 in Washington

Arts Centre Washington has announced its spring and summer 2018 theatre and dance programme. All shows start at 7:30 unless otherwise indicated.

• 10 February (11:00 and 2:00)
  The Tin Foil Astronaut
  Presented by Kitchen Zoo

  Alba is going into space. She’s been in training and she’s even made her own rocket. But can she really power a rocket with crisps? A story of discovery, individuality and the celebration of differences for ages 3 to 7 which includes original music and puppets.

  The Nose That Nobody Picked (The Mucusical)
  Adapted for stage from the book by David Parkin

  One day, Christopher finds a living nose raised by slugs in his garden. In the hunt to find Little Big Nose a face, they encounter Doctor Skinner, an eccentric plastic surgeon, who has connections to the nose’s past, and sinister intentions for his future.

  A rip snorting yarn for ages 5+ and their families—with songs—and snot.

  The Gingerbread Man

  Hiccup Theatre cooks up a brand new version of this classic tale adding delicious original live music, tasty storytelling and dollops of fun. For ages 3+.

  Oskar’s Amazing Adventure
  Presented by Theatre Fideri Fidera

  Little puppy​ Oskar has to run down a mountain to find a friendly animal to play with. But where are all the animals? And why does Oskar have to wait till spring to play his favourite game again? For ages 2 to 8.

• 22 March
  Circled in the Radio Times

  A new storytelling show from John Osborne (creator of John Peel's Shed) about how finding an old collection of copies of the Radio Times leads to him piecing together the life of the previous owner, and looks at the changing nature of the way all of us watch television.

• 6 April
  The War of the Worlds

  The critically-acclaimed Pantaloons invade the stage in this funny yet faithful new adaptation as they use musical instruments, puppetry and, um, enthusiasm to recreate deadly heat-rays, giant fighting-machines, squidgy tentacled Martians and interplanetary warfare on an epic scale. The chances of success? A million to one.

• 19 April
  If I Say Jump
  Common Chorus in association with Little Mighty

  Jenny’s a vicar. But she’s got problems. Her creepy ex-husband keeps sending her flowers and won’t sign the divorce papers. The church hall is being renovated by a dodgy builder, who’s being investigated by the police. And her best friend Danny has turned up in the vestry with a gun.

  Testosterone
  Rhum and Clay Theatre Company and Kit Redstone

  Kit is in an amusing and unique position, having transitioned from female to male in his early thirties, he has experienced adult life on both sides of the gender fence, giving him the opportunity to notice what differences there are in how he is treated by society—what he gains and what he loses by becoming a man. However, his biggest challenge comes when he enters a male gym changing room for the first time and is confronted by masculinity in all its forms—the good, the bad and the ugly. What kind of man will he be when he finishes changing?

  Austen’s Women
  Dryad Productions

  Thirteen of Jane Austen’s heroines come to life in this revisiting of some of literature’s most celebrated works. Using only Austen’s words, Rebecca Vaughan becomes Emma Woodhouse, Lizzy Bennet, Mrs Norris, Miss Bates and nine other women in critical moments from Austen’s major novels (including Pride and Prejudice, Sense and Sensibility and Emma) and lesser known or unfinished works.

• 2 June (7:00)
  Fall Out
  Old Kent Road

  Led by a live band, the jazz movement and tap show takes us on a journey of what it’s like to fall out of love. How did it feel, when you fell out of love?

  The Butcher’s Bill
  Canny Craic Theatre Company

  Set in No Man's Land during World War I, the play explores the world of three unlikely companions, thrown together by circumstances and fate.
