Bristol Old Vic
Theatre Royal Bath
Next in the West

Bristol Old Vic continues to attract top London-spawned theatre productions with the arrival next Spring of the Donmar's production of The Cut, by Mark Ravenhill and starring Sir Ian McKellen, following hard on the heels of Tamburlaine the Great and Phaedra's Love, currently showing at the Barbican, London. The Cut can be seen at the Old Vic from April 11-15.

Other highlights in the forthcoming season in the main theatre include an adaptation of Nights at the Circus by the novelist Angela Carter, best known for the film adaptation of her book, A Company of Wolves; a touring production of Chekhov's Three Sisters, adapted by Mustapha Matura and set in colonial Trinidad 1941 and an adaptation of The Taming of the Shrew by director Anne Tipton who directed Phaedra's Love. Productions in the Studio include a belated tribute to Harold Pinter with a production of The Dumb Waiter and a number of short sketches by artistic director Simon Reade.

Elsewhere in Bristol, the acclaimed Shakespeare at the Tobacco Factory company marks its seventh season with productions of the comedy Love's Labours Lost and the gorefest Titus Andronicus, also revived next year by the acclaimed Japanese director Ninagawa which can be seen at Stratford.

At Bath Theatre Royal Simon Callow pops us in a revival of Coward's Present Laughter, preceded by the National Theatre's production of Mike Leigh's Two Thousand Years. Also treading the boards is the touring production of Festen and on a very different note, the acclaimed Watermill Theatre production of the musical Mack and Mabel starring David Soul, best known for the 1970s TV series Starsky and Hutch and his role in Jerry Springer - The Opera.

Next year's Bath Shakespeare Festival includes the European premiere of an Australian company's production of The Comedy of Errors - not inspired by the national team's recent thrashing in the Ashes! - and the National Theatre of Romania's production of the unfailingly wonderful Twelfth Night. Other work featured includes an adaptation of The Winter's Tale, Macbeth and Pericles.
